Meet The Team

Obed Sebgefia
Obed has a background in Wildlife Biology and developed his love for birds during his undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Coast. Over the years, he has spent a lot of time exploring different parts of Ghana, learning about the many bird species that call these places home. His calm approach and deep knowledge make him great company on any bird walk. If you ever need someone who truly understands birds in Ghana, Obed is the person to talk to.

Manuel Odametey
Manuel has a background in Conservation Biology and developed his passion for birds after completing his bachelor’s degree. He’s the creative eye behind our visuals and the one who brings the beauty of Ghana’s birds to life through his lens. When he’s not editing photos or videos, you’ll probably find him out in the field, camera in hand, capturing moments that tell powerful conservation stories.

Yaw Amoateng
Yaw has a background in Forestry and developed his passion for birds after his bachelor’s degree, inspired by Obed’s enthusiasm for birding. His favorite birds are the Turacos, known for their vibrant colors and graceful flight. With his skills in GIS and mapping, Yaw helps track bird distributions and map key birding spots across Ghana, adding a scientific touch to every adventure.

Why We Created AvianLens
Avian Lens was born from a shared love for birds and a desire to help others see them the way we do, not just as wildlife, but as an essential part of our everyday world. What started as small weekend bird walks and photo trips soon turned into a mission: to connect people with nature through birds.
We realised that many Ghanaians walk past incredible birdlife every day without noticing. Through Avian Lens, we want to change that by showing the beauty, diversity, and importance of the birds around us. From stunning photography to guided walks and stories from the field, our goal is to inspire curiosity, appreciation, and action for conservation.
At its heart, Avian Lens is more than just a birding initiative. It’s a space to learn, share experiences, and build a community that values the wild places and species that make Ghana special.
